GAME MODES

SOLO PLAY

Playing with yourself? We’re ok with it this time. Deal your 5 cards and build the scene.

Think through:

  • The best and worst case scenarios
  • Each sector’s role and recommendations
  • What you’d need to solve the problem

GROUP PLAY

Designate one player as the Game Master. The Game Master’s role is to:

  • Use imagination to bring the scenario to life
  • Role-play as needed (e.g., 911 caller, facility staff, angry neighbor)

Divide remaining players into sector roles. One or more per player depending on group size.

Once roles are assigned:

  1. Deal the cards
  2. Build the scenario
  3. Have each sector develop their piece of a response plan
  4. Finish with a “Hazmat Huddle” where all sectors present their plans

Afterwards, debrief:

  • What went well?
  • What would you change?
  • Can you defend your decisions?

EXAMPLE SCENARIO

HOW TO WIN

Articulate a full plan of action in order to assess, identify, and resolve the hazmat scenario at hand. Other players/teams must agree on your proposed response plan.

HOW TO LOSE

If you misidentify a material, exclude a variable, or if another player/team is able to argue against your plan of action, consider yourself the loser. Keep playing.
